How the gear is made, and why.

Manx Iron gear is built differently because the standard it has to meet is non-negotiable. Every protective garment is certified under EN17092, the European certification for motorcycle protective clothing, at AA or AAA.

To earn those ratings, a garment has to survive abrasion testing on a moving belt, hold its seams under tear, and keep its armour in place under impact. A pair of jeans with a Kevlar patch sewn into a panel does not pass that test, Ours are built to.

01 · The Denim

Woven with Dyneema.

Our jeans are woven from a cotton blend that includes Dyneema, a fibre stronger than steel by weight. The result is abrasion resistance you can wear all day, with enough stretch to sit comfortably over your boots and through a long ride.

The AAA jean is built in 15oz denim with triple-needle stitched seams. The AA jean is also triple-needle stitched. Both have riveted pockets, YKK metal hardware, and a branded stud button at the waist.

02 · The Armour

Soft, until it isn't.

Every piece is fitted with Rheon, an energy-absorbing polymer that is soft and flexible in its natural state and stiffens dynamically under force. It sits at the knees and hips on the jeans, and across the shoulders, elbows and back on the rider shirt.

Rheon is rated to EN1621 Level 2 on the AAA range, and Level 1 on the AA. Slim enough to forget about. Substantial enough to do its job.

The standard

EN1621 Level 2 is the highest impact rating for motorcycle limb and back armour. It tests the energy transmitted through the armour during a controlled impact, and sets the maximum force a rider's body can be exposed to. Level 2 transmits less force than Level 1.

03 · The Kit

Designed to work together.

The jeans and rider shirts connect physically. A tab on the inside back of the shirt clips into a loop on the jeans, keeping the layers in position on the bike.

The range is built as a kit, designed to work better together than apart. Each piece protects a different part of you, and the cuts and fabrics are built to layer cleanly.
